    LEXINGTON, Ky.
    March 13, 2010

Three regions elected new representatives to the Little League International Board of Directors during meetings today at the organization’s 25th International Congress in Lexington, Ky.  Each of the new members were nominated to three-year terms by fellow District Administrators (DA) from their region in attendance at Congress.
The new members are: Jose Berrios (Latin America Region, Puerto Rico District 4); Linda Sanfilippo (Central Region, Illinois District 11); and, Camilla Serrano (Southwestern Region, New Mexico District 5).
Ms. Serrano and Mrs. Sanfilippo are the first female field representatives from districts in the United States to be nominated to the Board of Directors.
“Each of the new members of the Board will bring a distinct and different viewpoint that will be an asset as the Little League program moves forward and embraces new challenges in the coming years,” Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League International, said.  “They bring a wealth of experience and volunteer leadership with them.  We look forward to their contributions.”
The nominees will be confirmed Monday (March 15) in a meeting of the Board of Directors and will take their seat on the Board beginning with the annual meetings held each November.
The Little League Board of Directors is presently chaired by Dennis Lewin, former Senior Vice President of Production for ABC Sports, and is comprised of seven other officers and 21 board members.  Nine of the board members are District Administrators from the each of the nine regions around the world who serve three-year rotating terms.
Jose Berrios – Bayamon, Puerto Rico
Mr. Berrios has been working in the Little League Baseball and Softball organization since 1974 starting as a scorekeeper.  He worked his way up the ladder in the local league, eventually serving as the President of the Rexville Little League in his hometown for nine years.  He has spent his last nine years in Little League as the District Administrator for Puerto Rico District 4.  Mr. Berrios and his wife, Evelyn, have one child.  He is retired after spending 29 years as a supervisor with the telephone company.  He will succeed Ana Pelaez, from Colombia, as the Board’s field representative from Latin America.
    Linda Sanfilippo – Romeoville, Ill.
Mrs. Sanfilippo also has worked in many different capacities on the local level of Little League Baseball and Softball.  During her 30 years in the organization, she served for four years as the President of the Romeoville Little League, while also serving for a short time as the Assistant District Administrator.  For the last 16 years, Mrs. Sanfilippo has been the District Administrator for Illinois District 11.          Her experience also includes one term on Little League’s International Advisory Board.  Mrs. Sanfilippo is a retired accountant and bookkeeper for an oil company in Joliet, Ill.  She will replace John Roll, from Greenville, Ky., as the board’s field representative from the Central Region.
    Camilla Serrano – Albuquerque, N.M.
Also a longtime contributor on the local level, Ms. Serrano served as the President of Albuquerque’s Mile High Little League.  For the past 14 years, she has served as the District Administrator for New Mexico District 5.  At the 2007 Congress in Houston, Texas, Ms. Serrano was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award presented to District Administrators.  She succeeds Ferris M. Maness, from Fresno, Texas, at the field representative from the Southwestern Region.
Little League Baseball, founded in 1939, is the world’s largest organized youth sports program, with nearly 2.6 million participants and 1 million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and more than 80 other countries.  The Little League Board of Directors, a volunteer board, is responsible for the management of the property and affairs of Little League.

On March 26th, the University of New Mexico would like to invite you and your Little Leaguers to attend the “Little League Softball Day.”  The event will be held at the home field of the Lobos of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, at 6:00 PM, when the Lobos take on the Wildcats of the University of Arizona. In order to promote Little League Softball, as well as the college softball experience, Little League Baseball and Softball has worked with various colleges and universities resulting in these institutions providing a “Little League Softball Day” at the collegiate level. It is on this day that young athletes of all ages will get to experience the game of softball at its finest.  They will have the complete game experience from the warm up to the game-ending play. A “Little League Softball Day” is designed to promote what participating in Little League Softball can potentially lead to.  It will also provide a generous amount of exposure to the participating colleges and universities.  This event could lead to an on-going relationship between the local collegiate programs and their surrounding Little Leagues.

    On Game-day:

    • The Little League players may attend the game for $2.00.  Parents and chaperones may pre-order game tickets for a reduced rate of $3.00 for groups of 10 or more.  Little League players are required to wear their uniform shirt and should have their Little League Official patch sewn onto the left shoulder of their uniform shirt in order to be identified for admission.  Group parent tickets can be pre-ordered at 505-925-5858.
