Absent: Kirtland Zia

The regular monthly District 5 League Presidents met on Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Thunderbird Little League with regular chair Camilla Serrano presiding and recording secretary Chris Hughes.

II(d) & IV(h) Waivers need to be signed by Camilla before June 1, 2006. IV(h) forms need to be approved every year. When Camilla signs a II(d) form that particular player is eligible to play at your league as long as there is no break in service. Once a II(d) form is signed by Camilla it is not necessary to fill out a new form each year.

Safety Plans – As of today, Atrisco Valley and Mile High do not have their plans in. Plans need to be mailed to Williamsport. All other leagues have their plans in and all have been approved.

Rosters – Your team rosters were due fourteen days after your regular season started. Please have your league information officer enter in the information so your players and coaches will be covered under your insurance. And, come tournament time there will be no questions about player eligibility. Rosters must be finalized by June 2, 2006.

Kraig Max will host a district umpire clinic on June 24, 2006, at Manzano Mesa Community Center beginning at 9:15 am. Please encourage people in your league to attend, not only seasoned veterans but anyone who volunteers on a regular basis. Only those who attend a clinic given by an authorized trainer are allowed to umpire at state tournaments. Kraig is an authorized trainer designated through Waco this year.

Elections – Your election procedures should be followed according to your Constitution. If proper procedures aren’t followed, you may possibly have to re-run your election. Different procedures were discussed. Proper notification of election and voting dates must be posted in adequate time for all to see. Fall Ball – Looking for a league to host Fall Ball. It would be nice to rotate it around each year so one league doesn’t have all the responsibility. Talk to your boards and let Camilla know what you decide.

Camilla handed out UNM coaches and player’s clinics information and Little League clinics information.

State Tournaments will be hosted at Zia which include 11 Year Old Baseball and Big League Softball.

District Tournaments will be split between East Mountain and Zia Little Leagues.

Interleague – The biggest complaints appear to be the pitch count and too many scheduled games. These complaints were discussed at length and the bottom line is to protect the players. The coaches need to develop all the players. It was suggested to use the score keepers count as the official pitch count. If you feel you need a District 5 umpire to fairly umpire an important game, call Kraig and ask if he can get a crew for the game. Mano volunteered to umpire games and Larry Dean has also volunteered.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, June 11, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Thunderbird Little League.

Meeting adjourned at 3:40 PM.
