The regular monthly District 5 League Presidents met on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Thunderbird Little League with substitute chair Chris Hughes presiding and recording secretary Chris Hughes.
Brad Hutchins, Assistant Director to Marketing, and Greg Polgar, Marketing Assistant, talked about creating a closer relationship with the little leagues. UNM Baseball and Softball schedules were handed out and fund raiser options discussed. You can email Brad at hutchins@unm.edu and/or Greg at gpolgar@unm.edu and let them know what dates would work for your league and they will set up everything for you. You can have one day for all leagues or individual dates.
All leagues have agreed to participate in the Pitch Count Program if interleaguing in the minor, major or junior divisions. Atrisco Valley will participate only in the major division. Guidelines have been set by Little League International for leagues to follow. Steve Casey will follow up with the Presidents on implementing and overseeing the program.
In order to host a tournament you must have qualified umpires. Umpires for tournaments must have had regional training within the past three years or be trained by someone who has been to regional training within the past three years. Kraig Max will post a date and information on hosting a district umpire clinic. Check our website at www.nmd5littleleague.org. Please plan on sending as many people from your league at possible. Good time to qualify to umpire tournaments!
You must Charter before you hold a registration in order to be covered by insurance. If you have not mailed in your charter, please do so before your first registration. Remember required registration dates are January 28, 2006, and February 4, 2006.
Every league should turn in a Safety Plan this year since our district was at 100% last year. If you have any questions please contact Joe Archibeque.
State Tournaments – 2006 season, District 5 is scheduled to host 11 Year Old Baseball, Senior Baseball, and Big League Softball. In order to host any tournament you must have an approved safety plan in. Please let Camilla know if you would like to be a host site. Remember you will need to help insure that we have “qualified umpires†as required by the State DA Association.
Challenger Division – A challenger player may register at any league; remember ages are 5 – 22. Jennifer has a challenger registration form she would like you to use. If you can not open the file with the form attached, please contact Jennifer for one. When a player registers have them make their check payable to District 5 and all registration forms and checks go to Jennifer. Please contact her after your registrations and she will ask you to drop them in the mail to her. “Buddy’s†are still needed for games. Please let Jennifer know if you have someone interested.
2006 Rules and Regulations Changes – There are quite a few changes for regular season and tournament time so read them over because rules tend to be misinterpreted. Educate yourself to prevent problems.
Every volunteer needs to have a background check done. Please do this before you allow any person to interact with your players. If you have never used www.rapsheets.com they will run the first five checks free and then charge $1.50 per check thereafter. If www.rapsheets.com does not work try www.volunteerselectplus.com. Remember you do not have to give a reason why you decided not to go with a particular person for any position.
You can fill out a waiver for an out of boundary player. Both Presidents involved and Camilla must sign. Camilla will then send it off to Regional Headquarters and they will forward it on to the Charter Committee in Williamsport. This still does not mean it will be approved. Waivers are for regular season only. Players with waivers are not eligible for tournaments.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 6:00 PM at Thunderbird Little League.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 PM.
